Reflecting on the First Annual Maternal Health Symposium in Georgia

It was an incredible experience to attend the first annual symposium to address the maternal health crisis in Georgia on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Emory Conference Center Hotel in Atlanta! The day was nothing short of inspiring, educational, and impactful, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

Hosted by Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center, Mercer University School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, and in collaboration with various government agencies and community partners, this Symposium brought together a diverse group of individuals committed to making a difference in maternal and child health.

A United Front: The symposium showcased the power of unity. Care providers, scientists, government officials, and community stakeholders all came together with a shared purpose: to improve the well-being of mothers and children across Georgia and the Southeast. It was heartening to witness the collective dedication to addressing this crucial issue.

Data-Driven Solutions: The presentation of the statewide public opinion poll results by Research! America was eye-opening. It provided a data-driven perspective on our challenges, giving us a clear path to work on specific solutions.

Personal Stories: The testimonies shared during the event were heart-wrenching and motivating. Hearing from individuals and families directly affected by maternal health issues reminded us all of the urgency and importance of the work we do.

Keynote Inspiration: Dr. Kathleen Toomey’s keynote address set the tone for the day, emphasizing the significance of our collective efforts in creating a healthier future for mothers and children in Georgia.

Networking Success: The networking luncheon connected us with advocacy groups and maternal health leaders. Sharing ideas, forging new partnerships, and collaborating on strategies for change made the event even more valuable.

Looking Ahead: The panel discussion on the next steps was a fantastic way to wrap up the Symposium. It sparked meaningful conversations about how we can continue to address the challenges ahead and build a brighter future.

We left the Symposium with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to action. Together, we can make a real impact on maternal and child health in our communities. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this incredible event. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue to work towards a healthier and brighter future for all. #MaternalHealthMatters #CommunityUnity #ChangeMakers
